The island you can reach by wading

Isla del Ciervo is a small island off the southern tip of La Manga del Mar Menor, in the municipality of Cartagena, separated from the shore by a channel so shallow that you can cross it on foot.

Getting here

There are two ways to reach it:

  • on foot through the water, along the shallow crossing
  • by kayak or paddleboard from the shore, taking just a few minutes

Water shoes are a good idea.

What to do on the island

It is the southernmost of the islands of the Mar Menor and is also a refuge for seabirds.

What to bring

There are no facilities on the island, no beach bars or toilets, and no rubbish collection, so take everything you bring back with you. Bring water, sun protection and footwear suitable for rocks. To combine the outing with other beaches, see the beaches of La Manga.
