Guided tours of the lighthouse, in service since 1865

El Faro de Cabo de Palos is the tower at the top of the Cabo de Palos headland, on the pasaje del Faro, at the end of the village and in the municipality of Cartagena. It has been working since 1865, its tower is about 51 metres tall and, because of the height of the cape, its light is about 81 metres above the sea.

History

In 1554, construction of a watchtower, Torre de San Antonio, was ordered here to defend the coast from Barbary pirate attacks. In the nineteenth century the tower was demolished and its stone used to build the lighthouse, completed in 1864. It entered service on 31 January 1865.

Visiting the interior

You can go inside the lighthouse, but only on a guided tour booked in advance. Tours run from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, and cost 6 € per person. Children under 12 are not allowed, and visitors must be fully mobile and independent to climb.

The grounds and views

Even if you don't go inside, you can walk up to the esplanade. From there you can see the Mediterráneo, the cliffs, the coves around the cape and the outline of La Manga.

Getting here

You walk up, by the access road or the steps. You can also walk from the port along the seafront. To round off the day, have a look at what to see in La Manga and Cabo de Palos.

A beautiful, accessible place to enjoy wonderful views, even with children. The walk is easy and you can see Mediterráneo in two areas: coves and La Manga del Mar Menor.

An incredible lighthouse, magical at any time: sunrise, sunset, cloudy or clear, with the full moon beside it or no moon and a starry sky 💫 ⭐

This year we climbed the Cabo de Palos lighthouse for the first time. Despite the wind, it was spectacular, thanks to the history the guides share as you climb and, above all, the views at the top. An experience everyone should have.
